Elizabeth Ii ascended the throne on 6th of February 1953. Now in 2008 that makes reign of 55 years.

She is the second longest reigning British monarch after Queen Victoria, who reigned for 64 years. There has not been a Queen (or King) of England for over 300 years. Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
