The 1981 Chevy Malibu 350 engine thermostat is located on the front of the engine. You can follow the water supply hose from the radiator to the thermostat.
You shouldn't rplace it. your engine should give out anytime soon. just sell that s h i t. <Improvement by Darrenct83> Regardless of overall quality, a Malibu can provide good reliable transportation. V6 Engine: If you have the v6 engine the water pump can be replaced very easily. With the drive belt on the car break the pulley bolts for the water pump pulley loose. (The water pump is at the top of the engine) Remove the drive belt, and remove the pulley for the water pump. Place a large drain pan under engine and remove water pump bolts. Remove and replace water pump. Replace pulley and drive belt. Refill coolant reservoir to cold fill line and allow engine to warm up to full temp with radiator cap off. Refill coolant reservoir to warm fill line. This process takes about an hour in a repair shop. It shouldn't take much longer than that at home. 4 Cylinder Engine: If you have the four cylinder you should not attempt this repair at home. The water pump is driven by the timing chain, and takes a full day in the shop to replace. If you do the job improperly you can cause severe engine damage.
down below on both sides of engine!!
the water pump is Timing Chain driven behind the engine . Just follow the bottom coolant hose to the back of the engine and that's where u will find the thermostat housing as well. The front engine cover and timing chain has to come off to replace the water pump. talk about a messed up design ....... u can mail me back at : peter.kaks@yahoo.com
It depends on what engine you have. Get a manual on your car from the parts store.
yes it is!! it must be froze up, the belt should turn this pulley to make the water pump work so coolant circulates in engine.
