Losing a mother is very painful. The fact is we cannot keep anyone alive if His/Her time has come. We can only do that which is in our hand. Mourning of the dead is a tradition in many societies. For instance the Israelites mourned Saul,Samuel,David,Moses. Now that we are in a modern world, people tend to forget the roots and trends of their origin and history. We cannot modernize mourning. So i think you should look for an elder in your society and seek to understand how to mourn your beloved mother.
