Friendships are based on the same thing any relationship is based on. Trust, loyalty, sharing secrets, discussing your likes and dislikes and hopes and dreams. Knowing that person will be there when there are good times and bad and that you will be there for them. Knowing you can tell them anything and it won't get around to others. You love to be in their company and feel good around them.

- Hang out with her. If you hang out with her your friendship bond can strengthen.
- Give her a present. This can apply to birthdays during a school year.
- Draw a picture of her. When you show it to her, she could thank you and make your friendship stronger.
- Hold hands with her .
- Play footsie.
- Keep in touch with her.
- Hang out with her and convince her to ignore rivals who might hang out with her and ruin your friendship.
- Don't argue or fight.

Is it possible to maintain best friend status when a woman is in love with her male best friend but he is not in love with her?
I seriously doubt you will be able to maintain best friend status. Friendship is very much and two way street and it sounds as though the friendship is flowing pretty much one way here (you to him). You probably don't mind it, but he is going to grow to resent it. Back off. Maintain a distant but casual friendship if you must. He may come around someday but I wouldn't bet on it.
