Answer for USA, Canada and countries running a 60 Hz supply service.

If your circuit is 120v, you can put 38 50W lights on a 20 amp circuit. I know that sounds like a lot, but these 38 lights will draw just under 16 amps which is within code requirements.

As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.

Before you do any work yourself,

on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,

always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB

SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY

REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

Volts * amps = Watts

Assuming a 120 Volt circuit (U.S. standard house wiring)

120V * 15A = 1800 Watts

That's the trip point of the breaker.

It's recommended that you not exceed 80% of the breaker or fuse capacity, which is about 1,440 watts.

1,440W/90Watts per bulb = 16 bulbs Maximum

15 amps at 80% = 12 amps continuous. Watts = Amps x Volts.
