Tourist numbers do not fall in hard economic times. The industry provides excellent "Bargains" to maintain high occupancy which is the "bottom line" and the affluent continue to indulge without concern. Hawaii was founded on the principles of cheap labor and as long as the "numbers" work it won't matter if it is sugar cane, pineapples or tourism, which political party is in the driver's seat, the weather or external affairs like War or Peace, Hawaii will end up with a profit margin.
