Best Answer

There are around 3000 California sea otters and 168,000 Alaskan and Russian sea otters in the wild today.

Less than 3,000

Another Answer

There has been a decline in the population for years now. In 2007 the population was recorded as 3,026, then in 2008 it was listed as 2,760. The current listing for 2009 is 2,654, another decline. They are protected but many factors are related to their current population status, and they are being studied to determine what action may help stop the decline.
