But that's a myth, there is not really a set number for dog tag chains. It's around 200 one the large one and 40 on the small one. 365 balls on a large chain would be way too large.

Presumably, there are 365 beads on the large dog tag chain so that prisoners of war can keep track of the days that pass while they are in captivity. The 52 beads on the small chain presumably represent the number of weeks in a year. However, it should be noted that dog tags were not always worn on beaded chains (nylon rope, flat beads, and cloth tape were used as alternatives).
