The amount of calories a person can eat without gaining or losing weight would be equal to the amount you burn in a day. It is impossible to determine how much a sixteen year old should eat in a day without knowing her weight and activity level. For further information, please see the related page link, further down this page, listed under "Related Links."
On average if you are healthy and not trying to lose weight multiply your weight times 16 and that will give you a base average..for example if you weigh 110 pounds and multiply that by 16 you should consume 1760 calories a day. If you are very active in sports you should increase this by a few hundred.
It depends on whether you are male or female and also if you have gone through puberty or not. If you are Male and have been through puberty the recommended amout a day is 2500 If you are Female and have been through puberty and are NOT pregnant then 2000 is the recommended amount a day.
According to the good advice at www.teengrowth.com/index.cfm?action=info_advice&ID_Advice=2434 without more information, it is not possible to give you an absolute number of calories needed per day by an individual. The number of calories needed depends on physical size and expenditure of energy (amount and type of activity). It is however possible to give a range of calorie recommendations. For the average teenage girl the recommended daily allowance is 2200 calories, and for the average teenage boy 2500-3000 calories. The current recommendation is for calories to be derived from carbohydrate (50-60 percent) fat (20-30 percent) and protein (10-20 percent), through a well-balanced daily meal pattern. Also teenagers should be aware of the need for adequate iron and calcium intake.
Remember that exercise is very important in the equation of how many calories are needed for normal growth and development, and also in any weight change program. Teens should be in the habit of exercising vigorously for at least 30 minutes 3-5 times a week.

It all depends on your metabolic rate, and how much activity you put your body through in one day.
If you're moderately active and try to excersize at least a little, then a good number to go by would be around 2000 or so calories a day. The fewer calories you burn, the fewer you should consume, and vice versa. (And, of course, if you find yourself losing/gaining weight, then you can adjust your calorie intake accordingly.)
However, it's really important to understand that the calories are not the only thing you should look at. Of those calories, a certain percentage should come from fat, another percentage from protein, and then carbs, etc.
In short, you're better off eating 2000 calories worth of healthy food (nutritional calories) than 1500 calories of junk (empty calories).
I hope that answered your question. :)
