In the early 60's a television had a tuner like on a radio. No presets. No limits. Only one or two channels were aired anyway.

It had two knobs. One knob was for channel 2-13 and were mainly used for local television stations. The 1 channel was for the UHF or ultra high frequency channels. This channel you could tune up or down to receive channel 14 on up. So the answer is 13 channels.

∙ 11y agoThe first television station was started in 1929 by the BBC from a studio in London. It provided just a single channel and even that was a part time one with just a few hours of programming per day.

∙ 11y agoBBC 1 began broadcasting on the 2nd of November 1936. BBC 2 began broadcasting on 20th of April 1964. ITV began broadcasting on the 22nd of September 1955. Channel 4 did n't start broadcastin till 1982. Channel 5 did n't start broadcasting till 1997 and BBC 3 did n't start until 2003. BBC 4 didn't start until 2002.
