People died in 14 countries, with most deaths in South Asia but a few along the eastern coast of Africa (Somalia in particular). Many more countries were affected in terms of infrastructure damage though.

There were a total of 47 countries who were affected by the 2004 Asian Tsunami in one way or the other. While only 8 countries suffered major damage and casualties, other countries suffered minor damage. There were also many countries around the world had citizens who were visiting the area who either lost their lives or were injured.
