It was chosen from 9 countries except it was based on bids from cities and not countries. There were 9 cities that had submitted bids to host the 2012 Olympics. They were were Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, London, Madrid, Moscow, New York City, Paris and Rio de Janeiro
