If the engine is running hot, then changing the thermostat to a lower degree is not the answer. Use the exact same temperature thermostat that came from the factory. Now find the real cause of the overheating. Possibly the thermostat was partially stuck closed, or the radiator is clogged, water pump, blown head gasket, fan not working, etc. Do a complete service of the cooling system and find the problem.
