There were enough life-jackets for all 2,208 passenger's, and nearly every one was wearing one. The big problem was that the water was so cold that 10 minutes in it killed you.

That means there would have been in excess of 1000 (there were over 2200 people on board) extras but they were useless in the frigid North Atlantic. Most people in the water would not have drowned but died from hypothermia within minutes. Others on the ship as it went down or who were too close to the ship and got sucked down with it obviously would have drowned.

Despite common rumor, not much. If he had gone slower, yes they would have noticed it from farther away, but it would have been harder to turn it away from the iceberg! And no, he was not going the fastest Titanic was expected to go. Titanic was never run at its highest speed, it never got the chance. They were expecting to hit top speed the next day. And ramming into it head first would have saved it from sinking (probably), but it would have killed everyone working in the front of the ship.
