How many guns are regestered in the US?
This question continues to come up, with great regularity. In most U.S. states, there is no registration, regardless of what anybody tells you. "Register you gun" is something people say because they have heard it on TV. There are 3 or 4 states that require registration, but the other 46 or 47 states do not, and there is no federal registration. So, in the vast majority of the U.S. there is no such thing as registration.

Unless stolen before making it to a retailer, they all are when bought. --- Firearms are not registered when sold by retailers (FFL dealers) unless they are required to be registered in a particular state. And the registration is usually done by the local police department in those states. F…FL dealers record the buyer's information from form 4473 in their "bound book" and then they are obligated to keep these records for as long as they remain in business and keep their federal firearms license renewed. Gues it all depends on what the OP meant by "registered" ( Full Answer )

None. When made, 99.9% are legal, no matter where made. Just because it's against the law for YOU to own it doesn't make the weapon illegal. Technically the above is correct however as guns are not required to be registered in all states it is impossible to say how many are owned legally. Guns th…at are owned illegally are obviously not registered so there is no way to know how many there are. ( Full Answer )

No exact answer, as there is no exact record- a good estimate is about 120 million privately owned handguns in the US.
There are really no firm numbers to answer this question- but it would be several millions of people. They would include the farmer that keeps a shotgun for protection of his livestock from wild animals, the merchant that keeps a handgun for protection from an armed robbery, and the private citizen …that keeps a firearm for personal defense from a mugger. This does not include law enforcement officers, military, or private security staff, like the guard at the bank, or the driver of the armored car that carries money from a business to the bank. There are estimates that firearms are used for defense by private citizens in the US several million times each year. ( Full Answer )
