A farrier, at the most can shoe about 6-7 horses a day. But, it takes about an hour and a half to do one horse!
Pick your horses hooves out daily, or whenever you are up at the boarding place. As stones can get caught in the hoof, causing a stone bruise potentially. Also in the muddy seasons going too long without picking the hooves clean can develop thrush.
Remuda is a group of horses in use by cowboys where they choose the horse they will use for the day.

A horses feeding habits can be affected by the amount of food in front of it, but they generally are 'slow feeders'. Horses like to graze for up to 16 hours a day on forage based food, such as grass, hay or similar. However in captivity their feeding habits are typically altered due to human intervention. In stable or domestic situations most horses are feed two to four times a day with hay and/or grain/pelleted feed products. When fed like this horses will typically eat their food as fast as possible, which can lead to many health and behavioural problems.
It really depends on the type; age; fitness level and health of the horse but for my two horses I feed them one bale (small square) a day in the warm weather. When the temp drops below minus 12 degrees Celsius I add another half bale. (making it a bale and a half a day) When I say a bale a day I mean they each eat half a bale, making it a bale in total. Mfire PS MY horses are what we call "Easy Keeper's" meaning the don't have problems keeping the weight on or off, some horses may eat a lot less then this or a lot more.
They should be picked out every day (or at least every other day) with a hoof pick & brush to keep them clean, healthy and comfortable. The horse also needs to be seen by a farrier/blacksmith every 8-12 weeks to trim the feet and shoe the horse if necessary.
A hostler or ostler is a groom or stableman, who is employed in a stable to take care of horses. They might be treated for injuries or illnesses by a veterinarian, and the condition of their feet and shoes was handled by a farrier. However, day to day care of the cavalry mount was by the soldier that rode the horse. A knight would be aided by his squire.
