Assuming the tsunami is the current 2011 one, currently, we have about 1000 known deaths. The number will be updated as it continues to climb.
On March 11, 2011 there was a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Sendai triggering a massive tsunami that hit of eastern coasts of Japan. In was reported that the earthquake created tsunami waves of up to 10 meters (33 ft) that struck Japan, with smaller waves in many other countries, with a significant surge and damage as far away as Chile, on the opposite side of the world from Japan. In Japan, the waves are reported to have traveled up to 10 kilometers (6 miles) inland. Many thousands of people were killed in both the earthquake and resulting tsunami.

Yes. Tokyo is safe. Unlike what you have been led to believe, no disaster has taken place in fukushima with their nuclear plants. An earthquake and tsunami stuck that region of Japan, killing more than 10.000 people, and make many more homeless. The supposed disaster at fukashima nuclear plant pales in comparison. Many more people were killed in this earthquake + tsunami than those that died from chernobil, but the media keep on screaming murder about this nooclear disaster which somehow has killed zero people thus far.
Far less than were being killed every night at the same time due to the conventional firebombing raids.
