Technically Henry's marriages were annulled, not divorced. In total, Henry annulled four of his marriages, including those to Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, the two wives he beheaded.
Henry's first marriage, to Catherine of Aragon, was annulled as she was technically married to his brother Arthur before his death. Catherine always claimed the marriage wasn't consummated.
Henry's second marriage, to Anne Boleyn, was also annulled, or dissolved, just a few days before her execution on charges of adultery, treason and incest.
Henry's fourth marriage to Anne of Cleves, a German noblewoman, was annulled just a few months after it happened as it was never consummated. Anne of Cleves accepted the title of the Kind's Beloved Sister with the annulment.
The fourth marriage that Henry had annulled was his fifth marriage, that to Catherine Howard. This marriage was annulled due to Howard's own admonitions of behaviour not fitting to that of a Queen of England, and she was executed a few months later.
Four of his wives were english:
# His second wife, Anne Boleyn. # His third wife, Jane Seymour. # His fifth wife, Catherine Howard. # His sixth wife, Katherine Parr. His first wife, Catherine of Aragon was spanish, and his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves was German.
Oddly, None, as they were consort queens, not Regnant monarchs in their own Right, such as Elizabeth I and II.
King Henry 8th had 6 wives. A good way on remembering how many wives and how they died is... Divorced, Beheaded, died, Divorced, Beheaded, survived.
two of them were beheaded. the saying goes divorced, beheaded, divorced, survived, divorced beheaded, died
Two. The old "rhyme" goes "divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived". Two of Henry's wives ... the second and fifth ... were executed, the first and third were divorced (and therefore no longer his wives at the time of their death), the third died (of natural causes), and the sixth was still married to Henry at the time of HIS death.
four and was divorced from them
At his instructions two of his wives were beheaded.
