How many pages are in the dictionary?

It should be noted that the OED is known for being THE comprehensive reference, and as such is much longer and more thorough than most dictionaries, including truly obscure words, full etymologies (where known), and citations of early usage. Most dictionaries will have far fewer pages than that. For example, Webster's New Universal Unabridged, which is on the hefty side compared to the dictionaries you'd typically find in, say, a high school, is a "mere" 2264 pages, and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary New Edition (2016) weighs in at just 939 pages in paperback form.

There are many different dictionaries. The Oxford English dictionary first volume had 10 volumes, and 15,490 pages.
