A peck is equal to eight quarts or about 53 cubic inches. If your tomatoes are about three cubic inches (about the size of a Baseball), there are about 17 tomatoes in a peck. There are a lot more cherry tomatoes in a peck!

Between 28 and 40 cups.

A peck is a dry goods measure equal to 2 gallons dry measure. Cups is a liquid measure equal to 236.8 ml for a (US) cup, 227 ml for a (BI) small cup, and 283.7 ml for a (BI) large (half pint) cup.

in british imperial measure a peck is 2 gallons imperial, or 32 cups volume (BI) large cup, or 40 cups volume for the small cup.

in (US) measure a peck is slightly larger than 537.6 cubic inches. A cup is 14.4375 cubic inches, so ~37.24 cups (US) = 1 peck volume.

The reason dry measure is used is because there is air space in the container, a peck basket here, and it is not completely filled with material, so that when the material, here tomatoes, is cut up the liquid volume will approximately be equivalent to the original dry volume. Thus 1 peck of tomatoes when cut up into usable chunks will approximately be about 2 gallons, liquid measure, or about 32 cups.

Best guess for medium sized tomato about 14 pounds

A peck is 1/4 bushel or 2 dry gallons. It was originally determined to be a portion of a wagon load, delivered to market. A wagon load was approximately 32 bushels of produce or 1 shipping ton. So a bushel, the amount 1 man could comfortably carry, was about 60 pounds or 62 pounds making a peck 15 to 15.5 pounds, estimated. The actual weight of a peck is dependent on the size and density of any particular fruit or vegetable and can actually run from 10 to about 18 pounds. Beefsteak tomatoes will actually run lighter in a peck basket than cherry tomatoes due to the space taken by the smaller tomato.

A peck is a quarter of a bushel.

You would probably use about 3 tomatoes for a pound, depending on their size.
