* There are no specific statistics on how many men suffer from domestic violence in a year because so much emphasis has been put on abused women up until the last five to eight years that men feel medical professionals and society would never believe they are suffering from domestic violence. However, medical professionals are more aware now that some men do indeed suffer from different forms of domestic violence and it is also linked to poor health both psychologically and physically and programs have been set up. Some men may not realize they are being psychologically or physically abused and feel their mate is simply wittier than they are or, if she has an 'outburst' that it's PMS or some hormonal change and therefore the male victim will endure the violence. Some men also fear that if they do admit their female counterpart is abusing them that family and friends will not believe him or wonder why he doesn't control his mate. Easy to ask of the victim and hard for the victim to do because most men are brought up not to strike a woman so he has no form of protection except leaving the scene and deciding to stay in this abusive relationship or leave and move on. The question of how many is very vague, if you were talking about the whole planet it would have a wildly fluctuating answer, because simply, what is defined in one culture as domestic violence is not considered domestic violence in another, because of differing norms, mores and customs. It is better to ask this about your own city, county or municipality and look at the human services section of their website where they have domestic violence statistics on record and publish them annually for they purposes of social service budgeting and funding. Where I am living, domestic violence has a broad definition and can include verbal insults as well as denying spending money to a family member, it wouldn't be far from the truth to say that there is an unreported instance of controlling behavior in every family that goes unreported, the records only show that which is reported and documented.

• Unfortunately, there are no true statistics on how many men suffer domestic violence in a year. There are more men that suffer verbal and physical abuse than most people know and most studies on abuse of any sort have been mainly studies re women, children and elder abuse. However, in the past 10 years or more it has been found that indeed men can be verbally or physically abused by a woman. Most good men are brought up to not hit a woman so if their wife or girlfriend hits them these men generally will accept whatever she dishes out to them. Men often times can feel embarrassed that a woman is abusive verbally or physically because it use to be ingrained into society's lives that women were the weaker sex and men were the abusers. Things are changing and there is help for men. Telephoning Mental Health to find Men's Abuse Centers is a start for these men and there is help.
• Note: One statistic is from 2008 via a local women's group. 835,000 men in the same year were so badly abused by their female partners that their lives were in danger. Yet this is not on the news and widely accepted even in comedy movies/shows for a woman to dumb down a man and hitting him is a laughable stunt. Try turning this around and see how fast a show is cancelled cause of a man hitting a woman. NOONE should hit for ANY reason, whether man nor woman.
