Data from the Journal of Trauma 1997 July states that thirty million Americans ride horses and 50,000 are treated in Emergency Departments annually. Using data from July 1992 - January 1996 as typical 60% of these events were caused by "ejection or fall from horse"

Of these:

  • 60% patients were male
  • 37% were professional riders
  • 80% had head injuries
  • 30% had spinal injuries
  • 17% of the patients died

There is no hard answer for this. The amount of horses that get sick yearly will depend on many factors and is not a steady number from year to year.

What is the name of a group of race horses?

They don't really have a name for a group of race horses as far as I know. Cause generally when racing, they compete against each other. And it's a solo race for the win. So there is no association with the other horses, like for example a team of basketball players. There is no real name for a pack of race horses or a herde of race horses, or horde of race horses..............
