Where is the largest opera house in the World?

The largest Opera House in the world according to the number of seats is the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. It has 3,800 seats and more than 300 spaces for standing room. It's followed by Chicago's Civic Opera Theatre which is home to the Chicago Lyric Opera. The Civic Opera Theatre has 3,560. Cincinnati's Music Hall, home of the Cincinnati Opera ranks third with 3,516 seats. Theses housed dwarf the European houses of which the largest only hold around 3,000 people. Milan's La Scala for example has only 2,800 seats and London's Royal Opera House at Covent Garden has 2,268 seats. The Arena in Verona can seat up to 20,000. While it could be argued that it is not an opera house as it does not have a roof and it was built for gladiators, it has been staging opera for 100 years - much longer than the Met!

Who created the opera?

Opera, or the beginnings of, is thought to have originated with the Greek Tragedies. As time progressed and music began with lutes, original flutes, etc and songs by Dowland etc emerged, the use of story telling or getting accross the written word through song became more popular. The use of music in church settings, often without accompaniment also began to take hold in the writing of Gesualdo and his contemporaries. The first opera to be performed that we know about is considered to be L'orfeo by Monteverdi. Brilliant Opera, but the singing style was much different than today and an art that has all but been lost except by the early music devotees. From that, the idea of "opera" took hold, hence the beginnings of opera. Basically.

What is la Molinara opera about?

This opera by Giovanni Paisiello [9th May 1740 - 5th June 1816] was premiered in 1789. However there would seem to be no public database holding a synopsis in order to answer your question and the opera is totally outside the mainstream. I can only suggest that you try a music library to see if they hold a score and that should give you a synopsis of the story.
