Considering the population (this is bases on a good guess, but no actual hard research) I would estimate that about 10% of the population would have some form of body piercing. (Estimate is based on the advent of the modern piercing movement in starting in California in the early 70's).

This is designed to reopen piercings that have had the jewellery out for anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days.

How safe is a Tongue Piercing?

Tongue piercing, done by an experienced professional body piercer, in a controlled environment, with a client who's tongue is acceptable for piercing, is safe. Understanding the process and what the piercer needs from the client to provide the service is key to a successful piercing that can be fun and painless.Following the recommended aftercare and knowing, should the client have issues, they should return to there piercer for a follow up checkup.Stepping the barbell down in two weeks post piercing, prevents or at least minimizes the possibility of dental damage due to biting the barbell. Not purchasing garbage jewellery from mall vendors is another point I can't stress enough. Not all body jewellery is made to the same exacting standards as the jewellery you were pierced with by your professional body piercer. We are in the business of providing professional body piercing services to those who wish to have quality body piercings done by an experienced professional body piercer that will last as long as the client chooses to keep them.Using common sense and looking after your piercings is your responsibility, to your health and your body, we can only do so much, meet us half way and you will always have a nice safe piercing.

How old do you have to be to get your piercing license?

It all depends on the state you are living in. For most places, you need to be eighteen. However, you should not get a piercing license until you go through a proper and thorough apprenticeship(going to a "piercing school" does not count). Too many body piercers out there have licenses but aren't educated or skilled enough to perform a proper or safe piercing. Just because someone has a license, doesn't mean that the person knows exactly what he/she is doing. So make sure you complete a thorough apprenticeship before considering getting a piercing license.21 in the US, 19 in Canada and you must have proof of training.

What are the risks of anchor piercings?

Dermal anchors are not for everyone, unlike body piercing these are implants that are intended to stay in the body. The science of dermal anchoring is still very crude and not very refined, they are prone to infection, rejection and tearing out. In the event you ever with to have them taken out you must see a doctor to have them surgically removed. They can not legally be removed by a body piercer, that would be considered a surgicalprocedure and practicing medicine without a license. Dermal anchors and the installation of the anchors and the use of biopsy punches is illegal in some US states. So check with you local body piercing studio and health inspection unit in regards to the legality for your area. Be aware that some piercing studios will do dermal anchoring when they really don't know what they are doing so be sure you find a studio that has a good reputation for there work. Remember this is not body piercing but body modification and should never be confused with body piercing, this is a totally different ball or wax, you pay your money and take your chances.

Is armor piercing handgun ammo legal in California US?

How many states regulate body piercing?

See that's a tricky question that can be answered a couple of ways. Some would say that no States regulate body piercing, which would be true to some extent, then others would say that all States regulate body piercing, which would also be true to some extent......... Confused? Yeah I thought so......I will explain what regulation means when it come to body piercing. Each body piercing studio is a business and that business must have a business license for the town or city it's in to conduct business, with that licensing from let say the city, the city will require that studio to under go a health inspection prior to being granted a license to provide services. The health inspection is where a lot of wannabe body piercers get caught, they don't have the knowledge, skills, training or facilities to properly provide the services. They flunk the health inspection and lots of money goes down the tubes due to poor research and even worse knowledge. Every body piercing facility be it in a hair salon or a tattoo parlor must also be inspected prior to providing any service and the inspection report must be posted along with the business license so any one can see it. Now as for State regulations, most States leave that up to there respective Health Protection Office to deal with just like tattooing or hair salons any place a service is provided to the human body they must be inspected to ensure public safety. Some States have enacted regulations geared just toward body piercing and others don't and relie on there standing health protection regulations. So you see all States regulate body piercing, but only some have enacted specific regulations on body piercing alone generally due to some one doing something they shouldn't have been doing in the first place. Check out the APP website for more detailed information about State body piercing regulations, they can be found at www.safepiercing.org . Now I am not an APP member nor do I ever intend on being after 16 plus years of doing this professionally in Canada, but the APP in the US is a fairly good source for body piercing stats in the US. So check them out. Don't forget that townships, counties and cities can also regulate body piercing so there is another stop gap in the road to regulation.

How long does a nose piercing hurt for?

A properly done nostril piercing should only be uncomfortable at the most for 24 hours. If the piercing is still uncomfortable past the 24 hour point then chances are good that there is some form of issue with the tightness of the jewellery in the piercing, cleaning procedure, method used to conduct the piercing. If the piercing was done with a piercing gun, well then there's your problem. Piercing guns are never to be used to pierce anything other than ear lobes. In Canada "Health Canada" has made it more than clear to piercing gun manufacturers that they are not permitted to use piercing guns on anything other than ear lobes. This policy has also started to appear in most US state health guidelines for piercing services. Now if the piercing was done by a professional body piercer, I would suggest you revisit your piercer and have them look at the piercing to ensure you have enough room on the jewellery piece for the possible swelling and cleaning requirements. The method used to clean the piercing could also be causing you some issue so this can be discussed with your piercer.
