Different sources cite different numbers. This is most likely due to the fact that some statistics still list soldiers as missing in action even decades after the war. The various numbers are:

8,082 to 16,343 killed in action

320 to 5,029 missing in action, and

27,280 to 34,136 wounded in action.

What cused WW2?

Adolf Hitler was a very patriotic man (he loved his country). After ww1 the treaty of Versailles was signed by the powers of the world and reduced Germany's army/forces. Hitler was not happy (this was way after ww1), he became dictator after the predecessor died, he made an alliance with Austria making the third Reich and demilitarized the Rhineland. He then invaded Poland with war declarations from Britain and France. He invaded so Britain and France went to war. Basically, Adolf Hitler wanted to rule the world and make a Superior race. =]
