The Constitution was finished on September 12, 1787. Of the 55 delegates, 42 attended most of the meetings, and 39 delegates (and the attesting secretary) actually signed the Constitution. Edmund Randolph and George Mason of Virginia and Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts refused to sign, due in part to the lack of a Bill of Rights.

The Constitutional Convention took place between May 25th, 1787 and September 17th, 1787. The purpose of the convention was to create a legal document for the foundation of the United States of America that could replace the flawed Articles of The Confederation. The thirteen states originally appointed 70 men to be delegates at the convention, but a number of them could not attend and instead 55 were took part in the convention.

There were 50 men that worked on the Constitution. Only 39 of them were actually present for the signing of the Constitution,
