There is at least one phase in every solution because the solute has been completely dissolved into solution. If there is still remaining solute, then the solution has two phases, one in which the solute is completely dissolved and the other phase having undissolved solute.

On the earth, water can exist in the liquid, solid, and gas phases all at the same time. An example of this would be an iced-over pond, where the ice starts to break up, forming chunks of solid water (ice) floating in liquid water, with gaseous water (water vapor) in the atmosphere.
