It all depends on what you want to call a drum kit. So I guess it's anything with at least 2 percussion instruments of which at least 1 is a drum.
Some drum kits (if we're talking about non live players) have big drum kits on their harddrives. I personally like each of my kits to contain
10 kicks
10 snares
10 hi hats
10 open hi hats
Etc...
A basic kit is 5 drums, 1 Bass Drum, 1 Snare Drum, 2 Rack toms, and 1 floor tom, however more of any of these can be added, or some can be taken away.
Adding cymbals to the kit, a basic set-up for cymbals would be one crash cymbal, one ride cymbal, and one pair of hi-hat cymbals. Also available are China cymbals, and Splash Cymbals, again you can add or take away as you please.
Tom toms break into groups either mounted or floor. Mounted tom toms are set on a bracket or stand, floor tom toms normally are fitted with retractable legs to adjust the height. If a kit had 3 tom toms 2 mounted and a single floor tom tom, then they would be the tenor, mid, & bass tom toms
it depends if its a.......
large drum kit
medium drum kit
or a....
small drum kit
a small has 3 drums
a meduim has 4 drums
or a lage drum kit has about 7 drums
or a coc has 0 drums
in a standad drum kit there are 3 toms 1 high 1 medium and 1 low. 1 snare , 1 bass drum and 3 cymbals
"Tom-toms" are the drums that have different tones.
The toms or tom-toms are mounted or floor standing drums in various sizes and normally tuned to tenor, mid and lower.
Technically 3 - 2 cymbols and one hi-hat set
It depends on what kind of "standard" kit you're talking about. Every drum company has their own idea of a 'standard' drum kit. So, I'm just going to assume you are talking about a basic beginners drum kit. So, to get to your question, a beginners drum kit usually has a hi-hat, which is two cymbals put together, one on top of the other. The standard hi-hat size is about 13 to 14 inches. Next, there is the Ride. The standard size for a ride is about 20 inches, however, I've seen rides range anywhere form 18 inches to 26 inches. And finally, there is the Crash. Standard Crash sizes are usually about 16 inches, however, I have seen crashes range anywhere form 14 inches to 20 inches. So, to answer your question in short, there are usually 4 cymbals in a beginner's drum kit (if you are counting the hi-hat as 2)Hope that helps!
Well to be basic 2, acoustic kits and electronic kits, after which its how many drums/cymbals you want in your kit, what make, what col, which drum heads the list is extensive.
He played Premier drums and Paiste cymbals for most of the seventies tours, but used Zildjian cymbals in 1977 and 1978. He had eighteen drums in his kit on the 75-76 tours.
Evanescence drummer, Rocky Gray has 7 Drums and 9 cymbals (including the hi-hats) in his kit.
Percussion.Battery: snare, tenor, bass drum.Pit: auxiliary instruments (drum kit, bass drum, crash cymbals, ect.)
some people add cowbells to their drum kits, Cymbals are also normally part of the basic drum kit.
cymbals
You can find cymbals inside a drum kit. The number of cymbals is different in each drum kit, because there are different kinds of music. But all come with a Hi-hat unless it is only a drum kit with only drums.
Cymbals!
There are plenty of places in order for someone to buy cymbals on the internet for a drum kit. However, it is suggested that one should check out from the website Drum Shop.
Crash cymbals can be mounted on a stand and played with a drum stick, or by hand in pairs. Typically they are set up along side a drum kit and played by a drummer with drum sticks.
A Truth Custom drum kit with Zildjian cymbals.

It's the hi-hat.
The standard drum kits used by bands today evolved from band pits at sporting events across Europe and the USA. Band pits became too small and drum players were given a snare drum and a bass drum, which was modified to work with a pedal. This already eliminated one person. Later hi-hats and cymbals were introduced to the setup. This setup evolved into quite a complex system of drums and cymbals and became a challenge to play. The drum kit/drum set was born. Eventually the drum kit was used in commercial music.
