Modern flutes have three pieces: a head joint(the part you blow into), the body( the largest part with most of the keys) and the end or foot joint (smallest piece with the keys for your right pinky finger)

--unless you're wishing to get more specific:

three "swivel" screws; five rod screws; two thumb keys; one Ab key; the trill keys are made up of three pieces that act as one; the left hand keys are made up of five pieces that act as two; the foot keys are made up of 7 pieces that act as four (5 pieces that act as 3 on a student flute); the right hand keys are made up of 5 pieces that act as 2; a crown; a cork; three body peices (head, body, foot), and more permenant springs than I've ever cared to count while fixing one--however ballpark guess without looking is13-16

if i forgot any pieces, i appologize

In the modern flute family there is a C flute(the most common one), a piccolo which sounds an ocatve higher, an alto flute in the key of G (so a fourth lower then the c flute), and a bass flute which is an octave lower then the c flute.
