The 1988 Pontiac Bonneville originally used R12 freon, this freon is no longer available due to government regulation. Your A/C system must have it's A/C service ports replaced. Then the system filled with the correct amount of R134a freon.
R-12 which is very dangerous. And they don't make it anymore. You need to have what freon is left in it flushed out and then get the kit to switch it over to be able to use 134A. You can get the kit and freon at walmart or pepboys or autozone or whatever local parts store you use.
