I have a female Yorkshire terrirer dog at home, and she had 2-3 puppies. But she usually has 4. Yorkshire terriers can even have 6 puppies!!! But i guess it all depends on its size, weight, and height.

I have a 2 and a half year old medium Yorkie bitch Polly who mated with the sisters Male Yorkie Monty (medium sized about -2 inches smaller than Polly) this New Year. Last weekend Polly gave birth to EIGHT beautiful health puppies. Polly was fine on day one and day two but we became worried about her on day three as she seems to be getting weaker and could hardly stand or lift her head. We called the vet and he told is to bring her in. She had a high temperature and was dehydrated so the vet gave her two antibiotic injections and also some dioralite liquid for us to give her. The vet also advised that Polly may not produce enough for all the puppies so advised us to supplement them by hand feeding them every hour with Lactol or Whelpy. The next day there was a big improvement in Polly she got out of her basket and started eating! We took her back to the vets for a check up and she got the all clear vet was happy with her progress but gave us a course of antibiotic tablets to give her to prevent any infection. It is now nearly the end of week two, Mother and Puppies all doing fine. Polly is producing enough milk now to feed all puppies but we keeping our eyes on a couple of the little ones Pippy and Poppy who tend to get pushed out by the bigger boys and give them a little extra. It has been an experience we shall never forget. I think we have felt every emotion possible - excitement, happiness, worry and fear. But it has all been worth it. Polly will not be having any more puppies after this first litter. We plan to have her spayed this year after her next season. She is a wonderful dog and don't want to put her at risk again. Hope this helps. Regards, Christine.
