While the bast majority of Soviet soldiers were conscripted, many did enlist for patriotic reasons; the actual number is probably impossible to calculate, but it was probably much lower than in other allied countries.
The Soviets Had about 34 Million in their Armed forces from 1941-1945. About 6 Million were POWs, of that 3.5 Million died in POW camps. 6 Million died in Combat. Their were 6 Million fighting at the end of the war, but my guess is that they switched around and their were more like 8 million at the front lines. Of these 34 Million, 4 Million were enlisted, and 30 Million were drafted. 42 Million Soviets died during these years. 26 Million were war-related including 17 Million Civilian Death. Civilian Deaths include 4 Million Bolshevicks, Communists, ect. 1.5 Million died in the siege of Leningrad from 1941 to 1944.
