Orchids are the most varied plant species on earth, there are over 52,000 varieties of orchids with new ones created every year. People who grow orchids are a pretty fanatical bunch, some take it to the extreme of cross breeding two know varieties to create a new species which involves harvesting the seeds, planting them, then waiting 3-5 years for the first flower to bloom to determine if the flower is "pretty". The cross breeder then gets to name the new variety. People, being a visually focused bunch, breed for appearance only, so almost all human created cross breeds have lost their fragrances.
