it depends only on the weight and size of the envelope, not the distance, when mailed in the united states. if it is a normal envelope with 8 sheets of paper or less, you only need one $.41 stamp.

ONE. It depends on the size and weight of the letter you're sending. If it's just a normal letter, you can use a standard Forever ($0.44 currently) stamp. If it's particularly thick and won't go through the machines, you need to add a $0.20 stamp because it's non-machinable. Also, if it's over one ounce, you need to add an extra $0.20 for every extra ounce after the first ounce, including partial ounces. So if it's 2.65 ounces, you'd have to add $0.40 extra cents in addition to the first $0.44.
