The last time was in 1990 with the likes of Barry Larkin, Hal Morris, Joe Oliver, Eric Davis, Paul o'neil, Billy hatcher, Chris Sabo, Jose Rio, Tom browning, and the nasty boys, rob dibble Ext......
In 1990 the reds went wire to wire they stayed in first place all year long from game 1. One other note. Reds center feilder Eric Davis dove for a ball and ruptured his kidney and did not see anymore action. However he set the pace fore the reds to win it all with his home run.
The 1975, 1976 reds were known as the greatest baseball team of all time. They were called the big red machine with an all star team of bench, rose, ext.
The reds would have won another world series in 1995 but they were eliminated in the national league championship by the atlanta braves. The reds were quick on the bases and deion sanders was the guy making it all happen then they traded him toward the end of the season screwin up the team chemistry and after the trade they went into a funk they they could not get out of and reggies sanders could not hit a tree with a semi-truck he became mr. strike out king.
Everybody in Cincinnati can thank former reds gm Jim bowden for making what might be the most idiotic trade ever by trading prime time deion sanders right at the end of the season when it was deion who was making it all happen. Thanks for costing Cincinnati another world series title Jim. (Dork)
Just as a side note....The Reds also had the distinction of having the best record in baseball in 1981...but did not see a second of postseason action. It was the first baseball strike and 54 games were lost; although the season resumed, MLB in its infinite wisdom, decreed that it would be a "split season"; the teams leading at the time of the strike were declared "first half champs"; and the season started all over again. The Reds were a half-game behind LA when the season was suspended; they finished a game and a half behind Houston in the second half.
The Reds were 66-42 on the year, and had the season simply continued, would have been three ahead of LA at season's end. No team in baseball had a better record, but because of the "spilt season" fiasco, no postseason for Cincinnati. (I was at Opening day in 1982, when the Reds unveiled a banner which read "Best Record in Baseball ~ 1981"; it was flown right next to the division, NL, and WS pennants flown over Riverfront Stadium.
The Dodgers knocked off Houston, then Montreal in the playoffs...and came back from an 0-2 start to defeat a badly overmatched Yankee squad to win the World Series.
