The Giants have appeared in the World Series six times since moving from New York to San Francisco after the 1957 season. In 1962, they lost to the New York Yankees in seven games. In 1989, they lost to the Oakland Athletics in four games. In 2002, they lost to the then-Anaheim Angels in seven games. In 2010, the Giants finally won a world championship for the Bay Area, defeating the Texas Rangers in five games. They succeeded again in 2012, sweeping the Detroit Tigers in four games. The Giants won their third world championship in 2014, defeated the Kansas City Royals in seven games in the 110th World Series.

Since the divisional playoff system began in 1969, the Giants have qualified for the postseason nine times -- in 1971, 1987, 1989, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2010 and 2012.

Before 1969, the Giants won the 1962 National League pennant in a three-game playoff with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They advanced to the World Series, but lost to the New York Yankees in seven games.
