Horses don't have toes their hoof is kind of like one big toe.

Each hoof on a modern horse is a single tow. Farther up on the rear legs are the vesitgal versions of the adjacent toes, represented as bones called "splints".

Interestingly, these toes can be seen in the early fetal development of the horse.

They use to, but as they formed over the ages the toes formed together into the hoof and the chestnut. That is the simple answer.

Actually horses did have toes over the years the earth changed and the horse aka Equis Caballis had 4 toes but over a trial of millions of years they grew to 4 toes, which is now a hoof and the little triangle is called a frog!

Horses do have toes, one on each foot. They walk or run on their middle digit, (the longest of our fingers). Fossils of early horses show clearly how they used to have 5 digits and then 3, but most of these were dispensed with over many generations. If your environment changes and you don't use part of your anatomy which is taking up valuable resources, the body will let it wither away over millions of years.

Horses had toes 45-55 million years ago during the early Tertiary period through the early/mid Eocene Epoch. The first multi-toes horse is commonly called Eohippus or 'The dawn Horse. It's more scientific name is Hyracotherium.

Horses don't have toes, they have hoofs! On the bottom of their hoof is something called the frog, which is a more sensitive spot of the hoof.
