Here you are essentially using Pythagorean Theorem to find the Hypotenuse of the missing side. Using Slope Formula you have the length of the A side and the B side and u fill those numbers into the A2 + B2 = C2

Use the slope formula for the X and Y values

3- (-3) = 6 now take the absolute value of the answer... so

the absolute value of 6 = 6 So this value fills in as A in Pythagorean Theorem

And now do the Same with the Y values in the slope formula:

-5-7 = -12

Now take the absolute value

the absolute value of -12 = 12 and now fill in Pythagorean Theorem for you B

Now we have our A and B values so we just plug them in

A=6 and B=12 SO...

62 + 122 = C2 ...

36 + 144 = 180

so C2 = 180 and now we must find the square root

The square root of 180 = 13.41

So the Length of a line segment with the end points (-3 , 7) and (3 , -5) is

13.41 units
