Cervical (most superior portion of the vertebral column) = 7 vertebrae
Thoracic (just inferior to the cervical region, superior to lumbar) = 12 vertebrae
Lumbar (inferior to the thoracic region, superior to the sacral region) = 5 vertebrae
Cervical-7 thoracic-12 lumbar-5 Think of it as Breakfast at 7 lunch at 12 and dinner at 5 :)
Cervical - 7
Thoracic - 12
Lumbar - 5
Cervical : 7. Thoracic : 12. Lumbar : 5.
they are attached to the lumbar vertebrae
The lumbar region of the vertebral column contains 5 vertebrae (the bones of the spine).
The smallest bone in the vertebral column is C1, also known as the Atlas. Unless you look down to Co4/5 in the coccyx, this whole region is smaller that alot of the individual vertebrae. True, however, the coccygeal bones are fused, and are typically thought of as a single bone.
Spine. VERTEBREA
There are 33 bones in the spinal column. There are five regions in the column. In descending order there is the Cervical region which has 7 bone, Thoracic region which has 12 bones, Lumbar region which has 5 bones, Sacral region which has 5 bones (these bones are fused together), and the Coccygeal region that has 4 bones (these bones are fused together). The coccygeal region can actually have anywhere from 3-5 bones, but the average is 4.

because during the growth of human beings the vertebral column outgrows the spinal chord. that's why we don't find the spinal cord starting from lower lumbar region where lumbar puncture is done.
Coccyx is the final segment of the ape vertebral column. That area is the coccygeal region.
