This is actually an interesting question because, as it turns out, Christ was born in 5BC. This is due to the irregular time keeping habits of the Romans who creatively manipulated the recorded progression of the years in order to get more taxes. In an effort to keep most of recorded history 'in tune' with the accepted years of known events a compromise had to be reached.
