I'm eleven and I'm dedicated to being a pediatrician. According to the research I have done, you need eleven years. Four years of college, four years of med school and at least three years of residency (basically, a payed internship but you have to work hard.) Harvard and Boston University offer programs that combine med school and college that are six or seven years as opposed to eight.

A pediatrician has to go through 11-13 years of schooling and internship to become an "attending physician" or an official pediatrician. First you take your normal three years of college then in your 3rd year of normal college you take your MCAT or Medical College Admission Test. After all that is done you go on to medical college and graduate you become whats called a "resident physician in pediatrics".You still are a pediatrician you just have to take your residency first.Residency takes 3 to 5 years. After that you are officially a pediatrician.

By school you are referring to university. First you have to get an honours undergraduate degree with a major in an applicable field such as Biology or chemistry. They it takes 4 more years to graduate from medical school. Then to specialize as a graduate student and a resident will take several more years depending on the specialization and whether or not you wish to conduct surgery You're looking at a minimum of around 12 years.
