How long it takes to become a pilot depends on a couple of factors. One being the type of pilot you wish to be, and the other being the amount of time you put into it. One who wishes to fly their own plane, can finishing training in around eight months. If they put in a lot of flight time. Those who wish to become a pilot as a career should expect to spend four or more years training.

To receive a Private Pilot license in the U.S., the FAA requires student pilots to have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, and complete an FAA ground school test. However, this is the minimum and most people take longer, normally between 50 - 60 flight hours if you fly frequently. This can take anywhere from 3 months to years depending on how often you fly. Flying 2 to 3 times a week is necessary if you want to complete it quickly.

To obtain an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate (commercial airline pilot) takes a minimum of 1500 flight hours. This will take a couple of years to gain this many flight hours and to go through a pilot program, but all depends on how frequently you are able to fly. You will also need a bachelor's degree to be competitive to get a job for a major airline in the U.S.

While it is possible to attain the private pilots license in as little as 40 hours of instruction. Most students undergo 60 to 70 hours of instruction.

How fast this happens in terms of daily life is entirely up to you. Most flight schools allow you (even encourage you) to take the process at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. Many students choose to fly a one or two-hour lesson once or twice a week. At this pace, it usually takes 6 or 8 months to complete the program (groundschool, testing and all) although it has been accomplished in much less time, it is not wise for anyone to rush through the process.

What is the absolute youngest age limit to fly a plane?

In the United States you have to be 17 to receive your private pilot certificate. You have to be 16 to solo as a student pilot. You can, however, fly a plane at any age as long as you have a certified flight instructor in the plane with you. I have known 9 and 10 year-olds who were taking lessons. However, they had to wait until age 16 to solo and 17 to take private check ride.

Is 72 to old to get a pilot licence?

Assuming you are in the United States, as long as you can pass a medical (to be a private pilot, more freedom), or have a valid U.S. license (sport/recreational pilot, with a little less freedom), no age is too old to be a pilot.

You would like to know if an aeroplane of any size may swim For example if an engine fails for any reason and is flying over sea can the pilot reduce the plane speed to a point of total halt?

yes. It is referred to as a stall and at that point it falls out of the sky, but it will only really halt when it hits a solid object. If you have a float plane why not land it on the water if the engine fails? As long as you have sufficient airspeed the plane will continue to fly. A pilot being a student pilot is taught that you fly an airplane as long as you can, when it no longer flys then you are a passenger
