How long it takes to become a pilot depends on a couple of factors. One being the type of pilot you wish to be, and the other being the amount of time you put into it. Flying 2 to 3 times a week is necessary if you want to complete it quickly.
To obtain an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate (commercial airline pilot) takes a minimum of 1500 flight hours. This will take a couple of years to gain this many flight hours and to go through a pilot program, but all depends on how frequently you are able to fly. You will also need a bachelor's degree to be competitive to get a job for a major airline in the U.S.

How fast this happens in terms of daily life is entirely up to you. Most flight schools allow you (even encourage you) to take the process at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. Many students choose to fly a one or two-hour lesson once or twice a week. At this pace, it usually takes 6 or 8 months to complete the program (groundschool, testing and all) although it has been accomplished in much less time, it is not wise for anyone to rush through the process.

∙ 16y agoIts not a matter of years. To obtain your private pilots license you need 45 hours of flight time 12 of which need to be solo. There are a few more requirements but those are the basics.

You can, however, fly a plane at any age as long as you have a certified flight instructor in the plane with you. I have known 9 and 10 year-olds who were taking lessons. yes. It is referred to as a stall and at that point it falls out of the sky, but it will only really halt when it hits a solid object. If you have a float plane why not land it on the water if the engine fails? As long as you have sufficient airspeed the plane will continue to fly. A pilot being a student pilot is taught that you fly an airplane as long as you can, when it no longer flys then you are a passenger
