You will need to receive a bachelor's degree, (which take approximately 4 years) and get accepted to a dental school which will take another four years. (some are three) The whole process should take about 8 years total.

You need to go to a certified dental school which usually lasts up to four years. A requirement to go to dental school, one of them at least, is a bachelors degree in anything from a certified institution of higher learning (college / university). If you can get your bachelors in three years and also do the prerequisite courses for dental school then it will take you seven years granted you don't have to repeat anything. It usually takes eight years, and some even longer. Good luck!

Dental school usually lasts 4 academic years post bachelor's degree. Studies begin with classroom instruction and laboratory work in science, including anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, and physiology. Beginning courses in clinical sciences, including laboratory techniques, are also completed. During the last 2 years, students treat patients, usually in dental clinics, under the supervision of licensed dentists. Most dental schools award the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Others award an equivalent degree, Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
