you have to use alkalinity up. not soda ash.

Baking Soda and Soda Ash are not the same thing. If in fact your alkalinity is below 80 ppm the addition of small amounts ( unless you are well below 50 ppm) of baking soda premixed in a pail and then added to the pool. Brush the pool if needed and in about 20 min. test again, continuing until you reach somewhere around 60 ppm. Test the next day for any change and adjust accordingly. This should have little effect on you pH. If the pH changes drastically adjust according.

Baking soda and PHThat depends on your PH level if it is below say 7.0 ppm refer to the chart in the back of your Taylor test kit # 2005 booklet and determine your pool size and that will tell you how much to add.If is is above 7.6 you do not add any for that will drive your PH up even higher rendering your sanitizer useless.

AnswerFirst and foremost DO NOT JUST ADD BAKING SODA TO YOUR POOL. How much you put depends on what your total Alkalinity level is and how many gallons of water you have in your pool. Always test your pool water before adding any chemicals. I personally recommend having the pool water professionally tested and analyzed before adding any chemicals.

you need to be more specific. How many gallons of water are in the pool, how low of a PH is it. I have a chart but you need at least those two pieces of information. Example: 20,000 gallons of water with a pH of 7.0, with a base demand of 8 drops, you will need about 5 pounds of chemical to raise the pH to about 7.5.

How do you know that you need baking soda? And by the time you read this it will be too late as the acedic conditions will have attacked the pool and the equipment possibly beyond repair.

On my 20,000 gallon pool, with very low pH and alkalinity. I started off with 4 lbs, then another 4lbs....finally up to 10 lbs before reaching a normal balance.

You do not use baking soda in a pool. You need to get pool chemicals from a store to make sure the bacteria is not allowed to grow.
