If you wanted to ride anything, you would have to buy tickets for the rides.To experience every attraction present in the park on opening day would have cost you roughly the equivalent of $30 in 2016 dollars to do everything once ... and that was before any of the "E ticket" or even "D ticket" attractions existed; the C ticket Jungle Cruise was probably the fanciest ride in the park.
Adjusted for inflation, prices have gone up, but not as dramatically as comparing $1 to roughly $100 makes it sound, especially considering the rides now are significantly better and you can ride them as many times as you want.
