A newborn Holstein may weigh around 60 to 70 lbs. However, it's not uncommon for cows to give birth to calves 80 to 90 lbs.
A Holstein bull calf can be around 12 months of age to be able to breed.
The male calf is always known to be heavier than females. Heifer calves (Holstein) are known to have a birth weight of approximately 80 pounds whereas the bull calf can weigh about 90 pounds at birth. This weight can differ between each calf depending on genetics of the parents and growth of the calf while in the womb.
A reasonable range is 80-100# at birth.
It will depend on where you get a holstein and what they will be used for. If you just go to the sales barn or auction to buy a calf to raise, it could cost about 100 to 600 dollars. If you buy a cow, they could be anywhere from 600-2000 dollars, maybe more or less. I have always bought calves from sales barns or dairy farms. If you are going to show it, the cow will probably be worth more than if you are buying it for milk or meat.
