Dollar Tree IS a good company to work for, but I'll break it down for those who are really considering a job with the company (whether it be cashier, stocker, assistant manager, store manager, and on up..).. Myself being a store manager for the company for 5 years, I can give you quite a bit of info..

Dollar Tree has an awesome benefits package.. Health, dental, vision, life insurance can all be given to an employee at a very reasonable price.. Their 401k is AWESOME!! The company will match up to 5% and that is 100% vested.. Almost unheard of now-a-days.. Management level and up are automatically enrolled in the company's Profit Sharing program.. A store manager can expect to make anywhere from $750-$2,000 a year from that alone.. If you invest 4-5% of your paycheck into your 401k, you can build up quite the ammount, believe me I speak from experience.. Sick Time and Vacation Time is of course something you gain more of as you stay with the company, but for example, an Assistant Manager that is hired from outside the company would receive 1 week of vacation after working for the company 1 year. After 2 years of employement you receive 2 weeks of vacation (PTO), and 3 weeks when you reach the 3 year mark.. They automatically receive 1 week of sick pay the minute they are hired, as long as it is a management position. Those aspects of the company make it one of the best companies I've ever worked for..

If you are looking at being a cashier with the company, be prepared to be paid close to if not mininum wage and expect your entire work shift to be very fast paced (minus breaks and/or lunches of course.).. Most Dollar Tree stores on average will have 2-3 associates inside the store at one time that can run the register. That being said, your bound to deal with customers angry about waiting in line as well as possibly managers and other cashiers being rude about having to come up front and help you out. Depending on the store manager/assistant managers, you will be given ample training before you are just "thrown to the wolves" so to speak. It's not a hard position, but you have to be highly motivated and want to help out the management team and the company in general. This job would include running the cash register, cleaning the store, stocking the shelves, unloading the truck, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, etc.. Dollar Tree is a company that has a TON of opportunity for advancement. The turnover rate is declining, but it is still very high in terms of company averages..

Stocking positions very by store. Some of the smaller Dollar Tree stores may not have any stockers at all, and there are some they might have anywhere up to 5 stockers, but on average each store has somewhere around 1-2 stockers. This would be more driven towards only unloading the truck, and stocking the shelves. Good position for someone that likes to keep busy their entire shift... Not good for someone that has trouble getting around, trouble lifting heavy boxes, or someone that just isn't a motivated person.. You won't last long with the company.. Believe me, Dollar Tree is very fast paced and extremely stressful sometimes..

The company pushes for their cashiers/stockers to only work between 15-20 hours per week.. So if your wanting a full-time position as a cashier/stockers and your not wanting to move up any further, Dollar Tree is not the company for you..

Rarely will Dollar Tree hire a person off the street to be a store manager (or atleast they've made a big push on it the last couple years.) So chances are if you don't get hired as a cashier/stocker, you're going to be hired as an Assistant Manager.. On average, you will probably make anywhere between $8-$11 per out to start.. This is a tough position to have in my opinion, because their is a lot that is expected of you.. Keep in mind, that's asuming the store manager/district manager cares about the store and puts in the time to make sure the store runs to the best of it's ability sales wise.. Assistant Managers can really learn a lot if they are around a good Store Manager, District Manager, Other Assistant Managers, and even other cashiers/stockers.. I believe almost 75% of all Store Manager promotions are coming from within the company at this point.. The company is growing quickly, plus the high turnover rate, equals a lot of job openings everyday..

You can make it as far as you want to with the company, you just have to factor in how long it is going to take and if your willing to put that time into it.. Like I said, and asssitant manager is going to make around $8-$11 per hour and it might take 2-3 years to become a store manager, where at that point you'd be making somewhere around $40k per year, probably around $35k in most cases... Dollar Tree is a great company, but as with any company, you have to deal with the ticky tacky rules and guidlines they set forth for each store and even each associate.. There's always going to be something that comes up or is asked of you that you might not neccessarily agree with, but you have to be able to just "roll with it".. That's what I tell my assistant managers, because if you let all the little things that are bad about retail job positions, you can make your experience at work just completely horrible and it can even rub off on your life outside of work...

No matter what position, my suggestion is to evaluate how you feel about the company after 3-6 months.. Really try to ask yourself if you can see yourself with the company a year from now and happy.. If you feel that is almost impossible, it's probably time to get out.. Retail is not for everybody.. It's a fast paced environment, you have to deal with rude customers, your asked to do 10 hours of work in 5 hours.. It's just Retail... simply put... Someone has to be behind the counter checking you out when you buy your consumbles and anything else at any store.. Likewise, someone has to be on the "front line", running the store (management team).. It's just a matter of if you want to be one of those people.. Retail is not easy, but for a driven person that is highly motivated, it can be just what your looking for..

Hope this helps anyone...
