Do archaeologists travel around the world?

Some archaeologists do travel around the world, others may be
based more in a particular area. Quite often archaeologists will
sudy a particular area of interest and do most of their work in
that one area, thought this may still involve a fair amount of
travel - For example a German archaeologist, based at a UK
university, who excavates sites in the near east may travel quite a
lot. Students also tend to travel when they are studying in order
to get a braod range of experience.

Are archaeologists in demand?

Archaeologists are always needed for something, and in many
countries if a construction project is being done then the
contractors are obliged to employ archaeologists to carry out
archaeological surveying. however much of the demand for
archaeologists in this field is seasonal, so demand tends to
fluctuate. While there are always permanent positions available
too, they tend to be quite competitive.

Where do archaeologists dig up artifacts?

Archaeologists can dig up artifacts pretty much anywhere,
although in practice where they chose to dig will be affected by
several factors. Archaeologists will conduct excavations only in
places where they find evidence of past human activity and the
excavation of the site will provide useful information. Excavations
are planned and not conducted at random.
