∙ 15y agoWe have a Minpin with a moderate perineal hernia. Although it is recommended to have it surgically repaired, a diet of soft moist foods, along with a stoll softner is also suggested. We rec'd notice from Calvin's DVM that he will need surgery, also noted is he will need to be castrated/nutered. Our DVM sent us to a "Qualified" Surgical Center in south county and who does this more than most other DVM's. His cost was $1500, plus cost of clipping and post op care. I am guessing we are looking at or near $2000 when it's all said and done. Calvin is 11 years old and in good health, and his lifestyle will be changing. He once was a hard charging old guy, now he will retire to the couch and the dull life of a clipped old guy with a mesh sac near his chute! Oh, BTW, I was quoted that a 50% success rate applies if the castration is not done?? Hummmmm! We're going in.......
