That would depend on the type of job, level of security clearance, level of authority, etc. For instance, FBI trainees typically make about $50k per year. Someone working in Immigration might start out making $25-$40k per year, depending on the job. Locations like New York that are more expensive to live in do tend to include a "cost of living" adjustment though, in addition to the standard pay for the position.
